Zoning 101

What is the meaning of zoning?  How is zoning performed in a city?  Who determines when or why a piece of property is zone a particular classification?  What do those zoning letters and numbers mean?  This is a beginner zoning section for everyone to learn and know what is zoning. 

Dictionary.com (2024) defines, zoning, as:
